ECTOR COUNTY -- More than a week ago two Buddy West Elementary students suggested that their school should have a buddy bench. That became a reality on Wednesday.
Buddy West Elementary held a small ribbon-cutting ceremony with Marley Scott and Angelina Mendoza, the pair who came up with the idea that students could sit on the bench to connect with new friends.
The crafted steel bench was donated by Juan Carlos Martinez who says he wants to make a difference after his own son was bullied at school.
Marley says she's thrilled by the donation.
"I think it's awesome. And like I hope that a lot of kids sit there, because I feel like kids already have friends but if they don't then that's okay," said Marley.
Marley and Angelina say they want to paint the bench with school colors.
