Faster internet making its way to Monahans
Randy Smith lives and works in Monahans.
He says the slow internet speeds is a daily problem.
“Basically can’t even do a movie and I’m all set up to work from home at times, but I won’t do it because it’s too slow,” Smith said.
With the Ward County Event Center opening on Sunday and over 150 new homes coming to east Monahans, Teresa Burnet with the chamber of commerce tells me having broadband internet is essential for their success, right here in Monahans.
“Trying to meet the needs of our community right now with oil companies, sand plant companies, even people just in their homes - residential areas that want to do Netflix and the games and the things like that, they don’t even have adequate enough Internet right now,” she said.
“Internet is key to the home now, and we’re just trying to get the fastest and the latest and greatest for this subdivision,” explained Morse Haynes, the EDC director.
The city has been looking to bring in fiber internet for the last two years, and now Burnett hopes phase one of twelve will be started within two months.
“We have a lot of great leaders in the community that are trying to get Internet here, they’re trying to encourage people to invest in Monahans and we think Monahans is a great place, so if we could get it, that would be great,” concluded Smith.
