Big Spring Police have opened an internal investigation into an arrest made over the weekend.
The investigation surrounds a video posted to social media over the weekend of an officer arresting a woman. The video shows the officer attempting to get the woman to stand up before eventually dragging her to a patrol car.
According to a BSPD Narrative Report, an officer was patrolling the 100 block of West 11th Street when he saw a woman he recognized as Crystal Mesler walking westbound.
The narrative report states that the officer knew Mesler had pending charges and asked dispatch to run a wanted check.
He was then informed that she was wanted for Possession of Marijuana.
The officer then made contact with Mesler in a nearby parking lot where police say she resisted arrest.
According to police, Mesler was released to hospital staff following her arrest.
Police Chief Chad Williams says the video prompted the department to open the internal investigation. No further information has been released as of Monday afternoon.
The video has been viewed more than 86,000 times.
