had only moved to the area six months before, her family tells law enforcement.

Though she has not yet been identified, her grandfather told Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson that she was new to the school and was a Straight-A student.

According to Sheriff Dodson the girl shot another female Alpine High School student while the two were in the band hall bathroom. The bullet reportedly hit the victim's lower backside.

When police arrived at the school they heard more gunshots fired. Officers found the alleged shooter in the bathroom with a self-inflicted wound.

Sheriff Dodson tells CBS 7 that she was armed with a semi-automatic pistol and had 'plenty of ammunition'.

The alleged shooter's grandfather told Sheriff Dodson "We don't know what would provoke this."

A motive in the case has not been determined.

Sheriff Dodson says he believes that the victim 'will be fine'.

"She was a good person, all-caring, all-around, just a good person in general," said Alpine High School student Taylor Hunt about the victim.

"We all just need to pray about it and get through it as a community."
