Alberto Terrazas is accused of committing Injury to a Child, a 1st Degree Felony.

According to an arrest affidavit from the DPS, on November 18 an injury to a child investigation began when a 4-year-old boy was brought to the Ward Memorial Hospital.

The boy's mother and her fiancé told hospital staff that the boy had fallen off of the front porch steps at their home and was unconscious.

The boy was eventually airlifted to Lubbock where he was listed as in serious condition suffering from a traumatic brain injury.

Texas Rangers then spoke with the mother and fiancé who repeated that the boy had fallen off the front steps of their home and hit his chin. They told the Rangers that they became concerned when he became lethargic and would not respond to their voices.

According to the mother and fiancé, the boy was taken to the hospital 50 minutes after the accident happened.

Staff at the hospital told law enforcement that it was unlikely the boy suffered his injury at that time and that it was also unlikely he suffered such severe injuries from the accident they described.

The affidavit states that the Texas Rangers interviewed Terrazas again two days later and that he admitted to causing the injury. According to the affidavit, Terrazas told Rangers that he struck the right side of the boy's head several times after he had become frustrated with him.

Terrazas also admitted that it happened several hours before the boy was eventually taken to the hospital and that no medical attention was sought until the mother came home from work hours later.
