Twin girls in Odessa die in crash, driver charged with intoxication manslaughter

ODESSA, Tx. (KOSA) – Odessa police have released the name of the accused drunk driver they say hit and killed 6-year-old twin girls Wednesday night in Odessa.

Police arrested 36-year-old Angelica Garcia, of Midland. Garcia is accused of driving drunk.

According to the police investigation, Garcia was driving a gray Chrysler 200 eastbound on the Business 20 (Highway 80) service road.

The service road dead ends at Club Drive, but police say Garcia continued driving east, through a barricade and into a field.

That is when Garcia struck 6-year-olds Mia and Mya Coy, who were standing near their family's fireworks stand. Police say Garcia did not stop until she collided with a trailer nearby.

Both girls were transported to Medical Center Hospital but were pronounced dead by medical personnel. Police say that Garcia was not injured.

Garcia is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter, and if convicted could spend up to 40 years in prison.

According to jail records, Garcia's posted bail Thursday afternoon, with her bond totally $70,000 for the two felony charges.
