MONAHANS -- 2 p.m. Update: New details have been released on an active crime scene in Monahans.
According to DPS, Monahans police officers were called out to a car crash around 6:30 a.m. Friday morning near St. John Evangelist Catholic Church.
At the scene officers reportedly found a murder victim. A suspect was also taken into custody.
Authorities have not identified the victim or suspect at this time.
Authorities say that the public was never in danger but that schools were put in a brief lockdown as a precaution.
The Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation.
The Robinson’s have lived behind the church for 15 years. Mary Robinson’s husband was driving to work when he saw the police cars.
“He said, there’s a lot going on over at the church. There’s a lot of police cars and even somebody may have died or got killed,” she said.
The couple were shocked to find a crime scene right across the street.
“It just seems so strange, because nothing ever happens like that around here. You know, we just enjoy our quiet little neighborhood,” she said.
Robinson said it’s strange because less than 24 hours before the incident, they were at the church worshipping.
“To me, that’s always so sad when people are evil and they decide to do something to harm other people,” she said.
And living in a small, tight-knit community, Robinson said these scenes touch everyone’s lives.
“That just is a horrible thing. First thing I do, is pray for the situation. Whatever happened, may God help,” she said.
