Odessa -- The Odessa Police Department is reminding the public to slow down near stopped emergency vehicles on the roads.
According to the Odessa Police Department the law states that motorists must drop down 20 miles below the posted speed limit when passing any emergency vehicle including, but not limited to, law enforcement vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, tow truck vehicles, TxDOT vehicles and all other emergency vehicles not listed.
OPD has issued 60 warnings in just this last weekend on 42nd Street and Andrews Highway relating to this problem.
According to OPD none of the vehicles that were stopped did not even come close to approaching the 20 miles below the posted speed limit.
They say the purpose of this special assignment is to protect emergency responders and citizens on the roads.
OPD reminds everyone that Officers will be enforcing this law.
