Matthew Alvarez

Matthew Alvarez joined the CBS7 News team in June 2016 as an Intern and moved his way up to an Anchor and Executive Producer.

A native West Texan, Matthew graduated from Odessa High School and attended Odessa College. Once joining the team, Matthew took on multiple roles as an Intern, everything from writing for newscasts to helping Photojournalists and Reporters in the field. Upon completion of the Internship, Matthew joined the CBS7 team full-time as an Associate Producer and was eventually promoted to Producer of CBS7 News at 6 & 10.

In 2018, Matthew then was promoted to Anchor and Reporter.

In this new and challenging position, Matthew has enjoyed being able to venture outside of the CBS7 Newsroom once again and tell the stories of West Texans.

Then, In January 2019, Matthew joined the Wake Up West Texas team as Anchor and CBS7 Executive Producer.

Other than Reporting and gathering the latest news that impacts you, Matthew enjoys being able to be a part of the community. During his time with CBS7, he has been able to mentor future Journalists in local schools.

Although Matthew is only 25 years old, he enjoys being able to bring a different perspective on news and guide aspiring journalists. He hopes to be able to share what he's learned from his colleagues at CBS7, who are some of the most experienced, talented, and professional in the business, with others.

He loves to feature unique people in his segment called 'Be Excellent'. Send your nominations to BeExcellent@cbs7.com. He also is proud to help One Accord for Kids of West Texas by featuring the Heart Gallery program. His segment is called 'Finding Family' and features a child each Sunday at 10 PM who is in need of a forever family.

Matthew was born and raised in Odessa, in his free time he enjoys spending time in the community and local events. He also catches up on news happening elsewhere in the world and would love to hear your stories!
