Sawyer McElroy

Sawyer is one of the newest members of the First Alert Weather team for CBS 7 News, joining in June 2023.
She graduated from the Metropolitan State University of Denver in December 2021 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology and a minor in Mathematics. She is a member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.
Before coming to CBS 7, Sawyer was a meteorologist for KTTC in Rochester, Minnesota. She traded in 40-below wind chill temperatures for triple-digit temperatures in West Texas.
A Colorado native, she's excited to be closer to home and her family. Growing up in Colorado, she loved to go hunting and fishing with her Dad. She enjoys spending time with her family, including her niece, nephew, and five dogs. She loves going to the Disney Parks and Broadway shows with her Mom, even starring in a few high school productions herself.
She is looking forward to keeping the community well-informed throughout all types of weather. Living in Colorado and Minnesota, she's learned and has experience forecasting pretty much every type of weather which will come in handy here in West Texas.

The calendar may say that fall begins tomorrow but Mother Nature hasn’t gotten the memo. Hot to very hot conditions are expected Saturday for the first day of fall.
The 80s hang on for just a couple more days before high pressure slides back into the region helping to push temperatures back into the 90s for a bit. As well as 90s, conditions look to remain relatively dry thanks to the high pressure system.

Temperatures will remain cooler through the weekend before warming in the new week.
Rain chances and cooler temperatures continue in the forecast through the weekend before conditions dry out in the new week. Along with drier conditions, temperatures will warm back into the low to mid-90s.

It has definitely felt a bit more "fall-like" over the past few days. The good news is the cooler, more seasonal weather looks to continue throughout the next 10-days.
After a summer of relentless heat we’re looking at a little bit of relief for the week ahead.
Hang on just a bit longer everyone, relief from the heat is on the way. We do have to deal with very hot temperatures for just a bit longer though.
Everyone needs to hang on just a few more days as the triple digits stick around. As we head through the next week though, changes are on the way with cooler temperatures and increased rain chances.
The heat just will not quit!! Hot temperatures and dry conditions are continuing to stick around across West Texas and southeast New Mexico.
Although it is the first day of Meteorological Fall, it certainly still feels like summer still across West Texas and southeast New Mexico.
A cold front will move through and bring cooler temperatures to the area and increased rain chances. Monday is looking to be the best bet for scattered to widespread rain chances across West Texas and southeast New Mexico. Highs on Monday are looking to be only in the 80s. The last time Midland International recorded an 80 degree temperature was back in early June, so it’s been a while. As the high pressure system settles, temperatures will slowly climb through the week with the 80s disappearing quickly and temperatures making their way back to the upper-90s and triple digits heading into next weekend. Along with warmer temperatures, rain chances disappear from the forecast.
The high pressure system that has been plaguing us will move off to the Midwest helping to bring a little bit of relief from the heat to the region. Highs through the majority of the week will be in the 90s, more seasonal for the time of year. Moisture will also be pulled in from the Gulf and widespread rain chances are looking to return.
Once we get past the weekend (and Monday really), temperatures will be back into the 90s and more seasonal for this time of year. The high-pressure system that has been plaguing us will move off enough to cool the temperatures and usher in some rain chances.
High pressure is still in control, but some changes are on the way for the near-future.
The cooler temperatures that kicked off the work-week sadly didn’t last long and temperatures will be very hot across the region Thursday.
A small cold front will move through late Sunday helping to cool temperatures out of the triple digits for a few days. High temperatures Monday and Tuesday are looking to be in the mid to upper-90s. Sadly, the cooler temperatures don’t last long with triple digits rebounding by Wednesday. Overall, the next 10-days look to be very hot still as the ridge of high pressure continues to keep us in it’s grasp.
Overall, temperatures will continue to be above-normal for this time of the year with triple digits ahead. The high pressure system just will not release it’s grip on West Texas and southeast New Mexico and doesn’t look to do so anytime soon.
Overall, the next 10 days are continuing to see triple-digit temperatures and mainly dry conditions.
If you’re sick of the heat like I am, well I have bad news for you...we’re heading into another week of scorching temperatures across West Texas and southeast New Mexico.
Through the next 10 days, temperatures will just continue to climb. By the middle of the new week, temperatures are looking to be around 110-degrees, which would break daily high temperature records.
Sunday will continue to be cooler with high temperatures in the 90s across the region. Skies will be mostly sunny to sunny. Tomorrow is looking to be the last day in the 90s for the foreseeable future so enjoy those “cooler” temperatures while we still have them! After Sunday, temperatures will return to the triple digits with rain chances continuing to remain scarce through the next 10 days. Areas west of the Pecos River may have a shot at some rain, but overall chances are low.

Temperatures will remain in the upper-90s through the weekend before the pesky high pressure builds again and bumps temperatures back into the triple digits next week. Rain chances continue to look scarce through the next 10 days.

Conditions will “cool” a bit for the end of this week heading into next weekend with some more 90s expected, but overall, the triple digits and dry weather are looking to stick around for at least the next 10-days.
Temperatures throughout the week will follow a bit of an up and down trend with highs in the triple digits and upper-90s expected at points. Conditions are looking to remain dry as well through the week.
Temperatures will continue to decrease a few degrees each day today and tomorrow with highs tomorrow only in the mid to upper-90s across the region.
High temperatures will once again be in the triple digits for the majority of West Texas and southeast New Mexico.

Temperatures are looking to not be as hot as a few weeks ago, but are still going to be very hot and above-average for this time of year. Along with triple digit heat, conditions are looking to remain dry throughout the week with minimal rain chances for the mountains and southeast New Mexico. Skies will be sunny to mainly sunny through the next 10 days.
