UPDATE: Suspicious package found to be unattended luggage; Owner has been located

UPDATE 7:44 PM: According to the City of Midland, the item causing the airport to be evacuated was unattended luggage.

TSA examined the luggage. The Midland Police Department Bomb Squad was dispatched to further investigate the luggage. MPD’s bomb squad determined the luggage was not dangerous.

During this time, airport employees and passengers were evacuated from the terminal building.

The owner of the unattended luggage was found. The city says the owner did not leave the bag behind on purpose.

Because of the investigation, a few flights were canceled. In addition, some flights were delayed.

Airport operations are working to accommodate all passengers.

UPDATE 7:31 PM: CBS7 was told the suspicious package found at MAF this afternoon was clothes.

UPDATE 6:15 PM: City officials tell CBS7 that a call was placed at about 4:30 p.m. about the suspicious package at MAF.

The bomb squad was then called in to investigate. The airport was evacuated.

Airport employees and passengers are now being let back into the building.

We have no information as to whether or not flights for the night are being canceled at this time.
