ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) -There’s something new to see in downtown Odessa and its 3 stories high.

a brand-new mural was unveiled Tuesday near the Marriott.

You may know the children’s book or movie Ferdinand the Bull.  But have you met Ferdinand the Bull now on display 6th and Jackson?

An artist from Miami was selected from a group of 178 others to do the work. Ernesto Maranje’s mural can be seen in the parking garage adjacent to the Mariott. It’s big and bold with the bull symbolizing west texas.  And it certainly stands out.

Randy Ham, Executive Director of Odessa Arts, said they wanted the mural to be something people wanted to post on social media.

“We wanted something that was iconic,” Ham said. “That’s Instagramable, that would promote tourism, and we’ve already seen that, we’ve seen lots of photos online of people that stopped right here and take photos of themselves in front of the mural. It enhances the quality of life for our residents but also gives our cultural tourists something to see and appreciate.”

This painting is definitely iconic and Instagram-worthy.

If you’re a fan of this latest addition to the city’s art collection, 2 more murals will be placed throughout Odessa one located on the ECISD Development Office Building and one on the side of the Family Wellness Clinic as both those paintings will be done by the end of the summer.
