WEST TEXAS (KOSA) - The boy’s state powerlifting meet finished in Abilene over the weekend.

Christian Orona is bringing a state championship back to Stanton. Orona weighs only 120 pounds, but he lifted a total of 1200 pounds. That is ten times his body weight.

Several medals are also coming back to Andrews. Ivan Zamora finished 2nd in the state for his weight class. Indiana Taylor got 4th, and Ernan Carrasco took 5th. In all, five Mustangs had top-10 finishes.

From Crane, Paul Walker took 2nd place in his weight class. He squatted 650 pounds, and bench pressed 415 to earn a silver medal. Teammate Diego Mendoza took 7th.

Odessa High’s Emilio Dominguez took 3rd place. His 765-pound squat was one of the heaviest in the state. His nickname is Maui because he is strong and looks like the character from Disney’s Moana.

Another local big man finished right behind him. Midland High’s John Martinez-Guedry took 4th place, lifting 1765 pounds.

Angel Martinez from Reagan County took 4th place. He is another lightweight that lifted nearly 1000 total pounds.
