UPDATE: DPS confirms teenager killed in officer-involved shooting

MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas (KOSA) -According to a spokesperson with DPS, the person killed in a March 3 officer-involved shooting was a 14-year old boy.

The teen was identified as Juan Herrera.

The family was notified Tuesday morning.


According to DPS, the officer-involved shooting occurred at the Sandstone Ridge Apartments in Midland at around 2:20 AM Thursday morning.

The suspect was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital where he later died. The suspect did not have any ID on him at the time of the shooting, and investigators are working to make a positive ID.

The Midland County Sheriff’s Deputy who was involved in the shooting was uninjured and has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation. No residents at the Sandstone Ridge Apartments were injured.

The investigation has now been turned over to the Texas Rangers.

They say that the shooting happened at 2:20 a.m. Thursday morning and that Texas Rangers are investigating. That is standard protocol.

No word on where this happened or if anyone was hurt.
