Pfluger to Biden: Increase domestic oil production for allies
ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - As uncertainty surrounds war in Europe, the threat of European nations losing access to Russia’s energy supply looms large.
To better serve America in its allies, Rep. August Pfluger (R, TX-11) called upon the Biden administration to begin upping domestic oil and gas production.
Pfluger recently visited Ukraine to meet with the Ukrainian government and discuss the energy situation.
CBS7 asked him what actions the United States should take regarding oil and gas as war in Europe continues.
“The Permian Basin is the most prolific production area in the entire world,” Pfluger said. “We must unleash and innovate to make sure the production continues to be strong, that we regain our dominance on the world stage in the oil and gas we supply, not only for our domestic needs but also our partners and allies so that they’re not dependent on maligned actors like Russia and China.”
But in his speech a few hours later, President made no mention of increasing domestic production. Instead, he announced the U.S. might tap into its strategic reserves.
“We’ve been coordinating with major oil-producing and consuming countries pursuing our common interest in securing global energy supplies,” Biden said. “We are actively working with countries around the world to elevate collective release of the strategic petroleum reserves of major energy-producing countries, and the United States will release additional barrels of oil as conditions warrant.”
West Texas could become a key component of NATO’s energy strategy. Nearly 30% of European union oil imports come from Russia.
