ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - UTPB’s Engineering Program was awarded nearly $300,000 from a Department of Defense grant to research artificial intelligence.

The program is currently looking into using AI for modern electric power distribution systems.

Funds from the grant will be used for an AI Summer Camp for students K-12 and a summer research project for UTPB undergraduates.

Students will be able to use simulations to observe AI behaviors under cyberattacks.

“A student will learn how to apply the research and education on different power systems. The things that they will learn they can apply those artificial intelligence techniques to other systems as well,” said Dr. Omar Beg of UTPB’s College of Engineering.

The Department of Electrical Engineering hopes to create a graduate program with the help of the new AI equipment.
