MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) -

A young boy made a big donation for a Midland Police officer.

Twelve-year-old Zechariah Cartledge presented a check for $10,000 for Midland Police Officer Leah Pond.

Cartledge is the founder of a nonprofit called Running 4 Heroes where donors build up funds for grants that are given to first responders who could use an extra hand.

Officer Pond was chosen after someone ran a red light and crashed into her police cruiser back in November.

Pond said this check means a lot to her, and she’s honored to have the support of the nonprofit.

Cartledge is also running a mile in Midland tonight in honor of a fallen Harris County deputy.
