BALMORHEA, Texas (KOSA) - The Balmorhea Bears have waited a month to play their 1A DII State Championship Game, and on Tuesday they finally get their chance at the title.

The original game on December 16th was postponed due to COVID-19. However, the month-long delay was nothing like the wait Balmorhea’s senior class has gone through.

The current seniors were freshman when the Bears lost in the state title game in 2017. They’ve spent the last three years trying to return to the championship round.

“They made a vow after the game that they were going to be back before they graduated,” Balmorhea Head Coach Vance Jones said. “They’ve worked hard, and we’ve made it back.”

“That’s all we ever talked about,” senior running back Angel Iniguez said. “That was our dream. We got there, now we just have one more job to do.”

Kickoff is at 6 p.m. Tuesday against the reigning state champs, the Richland Springs Coyotes. The matchup was moved from Arlington to San Angelo ISD Stadium.
