A Brewster County deputy was hurt in a shooting Wednesday night between Alpine and Marathon.

Sheriff Ronny Dodson confirmed that this shooting started with a car chase in Alpine. The sheriff said two women drove away from a deputy onto the highway.

When the car eventually stopped, shots were fired and one of those suspects was killed while the deputy was shot in the hand.

That deputy was then taken to Midland for surgery and is expected to recover.

Meanwhile, the other woman who was in the car was detained briefly but was let go and wasn’t charged with a crime.

The Texas Rangers are investigating, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
