ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (KOSA) -

About thirty acres caught fire between Goldsmith and Gardendale Tuesday afternoon.

Goldsmith and Odessa Fire Rescue sent out units to this scene where they worked to quickly stop the fire that was headed east toward Gardendale.

Goldsmith’s team said the high winds make it easy for fires to spread quickly.

“Oh, a lot of difficulties,” Firefighter Nathan Washburn said. “So, if you notice out here how high the brush is, some of it is up to my waist, and once it’s dry—all of it’s dry—once it sets off it just starts burning.”

Thankfully, the crews got there fast and put out the fire in about 30 minutes.

Firefighters said now they’re just going to keep an eye on it to make sure embers don’t blow away and spark another fire.
