ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) -

Midland’s proposition A has passed after unofficial results were tallied Tuesday night.

The proposition adds a quarter of a percent sales tax on certain goods.

The Say Yes to Healthcare campaign supporting the proposition explained the whole point of this tax is to make up for the roughly $30 mill they expect will be lost through cuts in federal funding.

Organizers say that money is needed to subsidize local clinics, maintain access to mental health care and attract talented doctors to work in Midland.

If this proposition hadn’t passed, campaign organizers said the county would have to consider a substantial property tax increase or allow a lot of healthcare services to be cut.
