NFL UK says in a statement on its website that the Rams "have expressed optimism that a resolution is near" and it expects the ticket sales to resume shortly.

The Rams are scheduled to host the New England Patriots at Wembley on Oct. 28 and have agreed to give up a home game in each of the next three seasons to play in London.

However, that apparently clashes with the team's lease on the Edward Jones Dome, where the Rams play their regular home games.

A referendum proposing a $45-per-semester fee passed on Thursday morning after a two-day vote by 9,923 students. A total of 7,334 students voted in favor of the fee (73.9 percent) and 2,589 voted against it (26 percent).

Athletics director Mack Rhoades called the vote a "statement moment" for the school. University regents must now approve the proposal when it meets on Feb. 15. The fee could take effect when the fall semester begins.

Manning's surgically-repaired neck sidelined him for the 2011 season, but he says he's making progress and has been throwing passes recently. Also, Irsay must pay a $28 million roster bonus by March 8 or risk losing Manning to free agency.

When asked about reports he may soon retire, he responded: "I have no plans on doing that."

"It's not the way it should be," he said earlier in a taped interview with ESPN. "I really don't think it will be as the week goes on."

The quarterback of the hometown Colts has not played in more than a year because of a damaged nerve that caused weakness in his throwing arm. He had neck surgery in May, then underwent his third and most invasive neck surgery in 19 months in September. Doctors fused two vertebrae together, a procedure that forced him to miss the Colts' 2-14 season.

Since then, Manning hasn't been able to escape the spotlight.

There has been rampant speculation about his recovery, the potential risks of a return, whether the Colts will pay Manning a $28 million roster bonus in early March to prevent him from becoming a free agent or whether the soon-to-be 36-year-old might quit playing.

The ongoing saga has spilled right into the first Super Bowl week in Indianapolis.

While the marquee story line was supposed to be Manning's brother Eli vs. Brady, it's the older Peyton who continues to make news.

Following last week's public spat with team owner Jim Irsay and the ensuing make-up, Irsay joined the city's mayor, the Indiana governor and host committee officials at Monday's news conference to discuss game week. Irsay wound up taking most of the questions and, of course, most focused on Manning's future. He also said he didn't want to discuss the Manning situation again this week.

On Tuesday, Manning was the chatty one.

Shortly after about 5,000 fans watched more than 1,000 reporters spend two hours interviewing Patriots and Giants, Manning delivered the third part of media day with an impromptu appearance in front of a small group of reporters. His motive was to turn the attention away from him and back to Sunday's game and his brother's quest to win a second Super Bowl ring.

That didn't work too well, either.

"I'm working hard, I had a really good session today," Manning said after throwing to several teammates. "I continue to make progress and work hard. The doctors are encouraged and that's encouraging to me."

Manning smiled throughout the 10-minute interview and looked happier and more vibrant than he has in months.

Not everyone is paying attention to the diversion.

"Oh you meant Eli? I got it now," Patriots linebacker Gary Guyton said when asked about coming to Indy with Manning in the headlines.

Most Colts fans, meanwhile, have enthusiastically backed Eli in hopes of sending the dreaded Patriots home empty-handed again from Indy. And Eli chimed in, too.

"Peyton has had an unbelievable career. Since I've been watching football, I haven't seen anybody play at a higher level than he has," Eli said. "It has always been my goal to get to his level of football, to get to his level of play. That is something that I've worked on. I've watched him in situations and I'm just amazed on some of the throws and plays he's made in his career. I try to ask as many questions and get as much help from him as I can."

Says Peyton: "I'll be rooting hard for the Giants. I've always wanted nothing but the best for Eli and I hope he breaks all of my records."

The St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission has been working to put together the proposal. The agreement with the Rams calls for the dome to be among the top 25 percent of all stadiums. If not, the Rams could break the lease after the 2014 season.


Owner Stan Kroenke (KRAHN'-kee) has been non-committal about the future of the franchise, creating worry that St. Louis could lose an NFL team for a second time. The Cardinals left for Arizona after the 1987 season.


The CVC and the Rams did not respond to messages seeking comment.

The two names most frequently mentioned during the Milwaukee Brewers' offseason weren't a part of the team's fan festival in Milwaukee.


And if that's the way things still look at the beginning of the season, the Brewers insist they'll be just fine.


Milwaukee doesn't have its Prince any more - but the Brewers still have a jester in their extroverted outfielder, Nyjer Morgan. Morgan said fans should be confident in the moves general manager Doug Melvin and assistant GM Gord Ash have made to put the Brewers in position to keep winning.


"Basically, don't panic," Morgan said. "Everything's going to be OK. We're all professionals. Doug and Gord, they brought players in to help get us back on top and still continue what we're doing. There's no panic."


The Brewers still expect to contend, even if their formula for winning might change.


After spending the first seven seasons of his career bashing home runs for the Brewers, Fielder recently signed a nine-year, $214 million free-agent deal with the Detroit Tigers.


"I wish Prince the best. I don't wish him any ill will," Melvin told fans attending the team's "On Deck" event, who responded by applauding. "He helped turn this organization around."


Melvin then got a laugh from the crowd when he added, "And I'm glad he and Albert Pujols are in the American League."


Braun, meanwhile, is awaiting a decision on his appeal of a potential 50-game suspension under baseball's drug policy. The National League MVP originally was scheduled to appear Sunday, but he withdrew a few days beforehand with his appeal still lingering.


"Obviously, people want to talk about it," closer John Axford said. "They want to try to figure out what's happening, what's going on, and obviously I guess that time's going to come soon. Being with Braunie and seeing how hard he works, I definitely have his back every step of the way."


And while Braun's situation was something of a curveball to the team's front office, the Brewers pretty much knew all along that Fielder wouldn't be back.


"Once he started saying he was going to get $200 million, I just went, `oops,"' Melvin said of agent Scott Boras. "That wasn't going to work here."


With Fielder gone and Braun potentially sitting out a large chunk of the season, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke hopes to tweak the team's winning formula. Even with the addition of slugging third baseman Aramis Ramirez through free agency, Roenicke talked Sunday about being more "creative" on offense and playing a different type of game.


"I think some areas, we're definitely going to focus on trying to get better in," Roenicke said. "Some things may not be as good. But our goal is certainly to do whatever it takes to get to the playoffs."



To Morgan, that means manufacturing runs instead of swinging for the fences.


"It's probably going to be a little more speedy this year," Morgan said. "You can see that we're going to have to rely on trying to steal bags and stuff like that, and not worrying about trying to hit those gaps all the time. You can see what they brought in, and understand we still have a great team here and still got a great chance of doing what we've got to do."


And while the Brewers were known primarily for the offensive exploits of Braun and Fielder in recent years, second baseman Rickie Weeks says this team has the best pitching he has seen during his time with the team.


It could be even better than last year, given that Zack Greinke should be healthy to start the season and the Brewers will have a full year with Francisco Rodriguez in the eighth-inning setup role for Axford.


"I've been here for a pretty long time now, and we never had pitching," Weeks said. "Last year was the first time we had pitching. I don't care how much offense you have, if you don't have pitching you can't win ballgames. We have that now still. Prince, he'll be missed, but at the same time I think we have some pieces in place that will still keep us at that top level."


And while the Brewers will miss Fielder's big bat, they don't seem overly concerned about replacing his leadership. In that respect, Corey Hart said veterans Craig Counsell, LaTroy Hawkins and Mark Kotsay will be missed more.


"It's more of what he can do on the field for you than what he does in the clubhouse," Hart said. "I think losing Counsell and `Hawk' and Kotsay, those guys are more fixtures in kind of the leadership role. Prince is more leading by production."

Coach Rick Carlisle said before Sunday night's game against San Antonio that Kidd would be out at least a week, and probably longer. The game against the Spurs was the first of five games for Dallas in seven days.


Kidd was wearing a sleeve over his right calf while riding a stationary bicycle before Sunday's game.


Kidd got hurt playing defense just more than 2 minutes into Friday's game victory against Utah.


The 38-year-old Kidd missed four games earlier this month because of a lower back injury. Kidd is averaging 4.1 points and 5.1 assists per game this season.

Advantage, Heat.


LeBron James scored 31 points, Dwyane Wade - he of that No. 3 jersey - scored 28 in his return from a sprained right ankle, and the Heat topped the 3-point-obsessed Knicks 99-89 on Friday night. Chris Bosh scored 13 points and James finished with eight rebounds and seven assists for Miami, which plays host to Chicago on Sunday in a rematch of last season's Eastern Conference finals.


"Real nice to be back," Wade said. "Felt great. Felt great."


Bill Walker scored 21 points for New York, which took 43 shots from 3-point range, the most in the NBA this season and a total that had the Knicks flirting with Dallas' NBA record of 49 set in 1996. The Knicks connected on 18 from beyond the arc, Walker making seven of them.


Toney Douglas scored 16 points, Landry Fields had 14 and Amare Stoudemire finished with 12 for New York, which tried more 3's than 2-point shots (41).


"We shot a lot of 3's, but we did hit a bunch of them, which kept us in there," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said. "We just couldn't sustain it all the way through. Give them credit, they're good."


Wade shot 11 for 19 from the field in his return, after missing six games with the ankle issue, plus putting up five steals, four assists and two blocks. The Heat - who have won eight of nine games without Wade so far this season - were outscored 54-6 from 3-point range, but held the Knicks to 36 percent shooting and only 18 points in the final quarter.


"It's a nice welcome back for that young kid, No. 3," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.


So while the Heat were healthier, the Knicks were ailing. New York played without Carmelo Anthony, who expects to miss at least two games while dealing with ankle, thumb and wrist problems. D'Antoni said Anthony would not return before Tuesday, so barring a change of plans that would rule him out of New York's game at Houston on Saturday.


"This was a game for us to win," Knicks center Tyson Chandler said. "We were right there. Just down the stretch they changed their coverages. We had them. ... It was open and our game for the taking, but obviously they were the better team."


Wade and James went on a highlight display in the first quarter, setting each other up for dunks in the opening minutes and combining for five slams in Miami's first seven field goals. Wade showed no rust from his layoff, scoring eight points in the first nine minutes.


Miami went to the rim. The Knicks stayed outside - way outside.


D'Antoni said before the game that the Knicks simply had to manufacture more offense. Hence, the game plan - shoot 3's, and shoot them in bunches.


Of New York's first 33 shots, 19 were from 3-point range. That's right: The Knicks had exactly two 2-pointers in the first 15-plus minutes. Over a stretch of nearly 6 minutes in the first half, the Knicks had 13 consecutive 3-point attempts, nothing inside the arc.


Desperate times, desperate measures, perhaps.


By halftime, the Knicks had tried 23 from long range - the most in the NBA this season and the most ever in a first half against Miami.


"We treated everybody as Ray Allen," Spoelstra said, referring to the Boston guard who is widely considered the league's best spot-up 3-point shooter. "That's what we kept on saying. That is Ray Allen out there. That's how they had to be treated, with that kind of respect. Make them put it on the floor."


Walker's season high had been 15 points. He got there early in the third quarter on Friday, part of a wild personal burst in which he scored nine points in 69 seconds to give the Knicks a 62-58 lead. He connected on three 3-pointers, banking in the last one from 27 feet, talking animatedly to no one in particular after each one.


The Knicks were so committed to the 3-pointer that on one possession midway through the second half, the 7-foot Chandler had the 6-foot-4 Wade posted up, and kicked the ball to Walker for a corner 3 anyway. A few moments later, Chandler had Wade alone in the post again, no one else within about 3 feet of them, and still didn't get the ball for what likely would have been an easy score or at least trip to the foul line.


By the time the Heat made their first 3-pointer of the night late in the third quarter, New York had made 14 - a surreal 42-point discrepancy.


New York simply had no answer for Wade and James.


"I felt good enough," Wade said.


Wade missed in the lane with 7 minutes left, but tipped in his own rebound for a seven-point lead, then Miami's largest of the night. About 2 minutes later, Bosh got the ball to James in transition as Wade called for a lob - which James perfectly provided for a two-handed dunk and an 88-79 edge that left the Heat firmly in control.


"If he's putting on a uniform," James said, "I expect greatness out of him."
