Closer Look Wrap Up 1/29/14
Response to last night's State of the Union Address was fast and widespread.
Democrats heralded the president's wide-sweeping hour long speech as a success, while Republicans broke from tradition and made many rebuttals many of which painted the president as misguided and ineffectual.
We talked with David Rosen, Midland County Democratic Chairman. He said he thought the President did a great job overall on his speech. He said one of the major points the President wants to accomplish is to raise the minimum wage not just for federal employees but across the country.
We then sat down with Midland County Republican Chairman James Beauchamp, he said he thought the Presidentís speech was confusing at times and he contradicted himself. Beauchamp says he thinks the President will continue to face Congressional gridlock, and it will be difficult to get much accomplished.
We also talked with Gene Powell with the Texas Department of Transportation. He reminded everyone to have a game plan on how to get home after the SuperBowl this Sunday. TXDOT is offering chance to win prizes for people that pledge to find a sober ride home. Visit TexasGamePlan.com to learn more and enter.
