James Wins AP Honors 12/26/13
MIAMI - LeBron James has become only the third basketball player to be voted The Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year since the award has been presented annually since 1931.
The Miami Heat star joins Michael Jordan and Larry Bird as the only ones from his sport to get the award.
James helped lead the Heat to its second straight NBA title and earned the regular season and NBA Finals MVP honors in the process.
He captured 31 of the 96 votes cast to beat out Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning who got 20. NASCAR champ Jimmie Johnson finished third in the balloting with seven votes.
