ODESSA, TX-Thousands of women from across the country have been experiencing, what many say, horrific side effects from a permanent form of birth control known as ESSURE.
There is now a demand to have it taken off the market.
In 2010, this Odessa woman, who wishes that her identity be kept unknown, decided to have her tubes tied, but her doctor persuaded her to have the ESSURE procedure done instead.
She says she feels lied to by her doctor. What was supposed to be a quick and painless procedure, turned out to be the opposite.
"I mean they practically said I could go back to work that same day, but within a few hours after it, it was a whole different story. Everyday its either a migraine, or pelvic pain, or having trouble walking and waking up with swelling to my eyes," said the Odessa woman.
Doctors tried convincing her that her symptoms weren't related to Essure, but she wasn't convinced.
She began her own research and came across the “ESSURE Problems” Facebook page, which has nearly 4,000 members from across the country.
"They're hand in hand with Erin Brockovich to help get this off the market. We trusted these doctors and we didn't sign up to have these kind of side effects to live the rest of our lives with."
This woman, along with thousands of others, are on a mission to warn other women of the potential risks ESSURE has.
"Other women need to come forward, speak to your doctors about it, so we can get this off the market."
Not much can be done for this Odessa mother except for a hysterectomy, which she says she cannot afford.
Currently these women cannot sue the manufacture of ESSURE, because the FDA gave them a pre-emption status.
The ESSURE Problems Facebook page encourages all women who have had any unbearable side effects to sign a petition that they've created and to file a report with the FDA.
