County Officials Gather Information for Potentially Disincorporating Big Lake 11/12/13
CBS 7 News
Both the city and county agree that Big Lake is in need of repairs. The roads, for on thing, need to be fixed.
Reagan County Judge Larry Isom says the city would be better off if it became disincorporated. He says that would help lower property taxes for everyone. Judge Isom says this way, the city would have more money to make repairs and fund the necessary needs of people in the community.
Evelyn Ammons with the city says disincorporating the city is not the best solution. She says the county would never be able to hold the ordinances of the city like the city currently does.
Judge Isom says the next step is to wait to hear back from a study in San Angelo about the pros and cons of disincorporating Big Lake. Then, he says if he still thinks it's a good idea, he will need to get 400 signatures on a petition to add the question to the next mayoral race ballot in February.
