Multiple Andrews Election Signs Stolen From Front Yards 11/04/13

Andrews - The fight to legalize the sale of alcohol in Andrews turns ugly after city officials report that election signs are being stolen. From newspaper ads to large billboards, residents are choosing sides and publicly calling others out.
Just two weeks ago signs were in front of every house, now that’s not the case. Residents CBS 7 spoke with said the whole town has split, all because of one election.
“Yeah they’re having a hard time, everybody is stealing these signs around here,” said Andrews resident Gary Loving. Signs used to line one South Andrews street, but as Election Day moves closer, front yards have been stripped and signs lay flat on the ground.
“I had two signs in my yard, and now only have one left. The guy across the street here lost his too,” said Loving.
“I saw a kid take a sign and then put a different sign there, it really hurt me a lot,” said Andrews resident Ismael Contreras.
For Contreras, it’s been a never-ending fight to keep his sign up due to vandals knocking it over multiple times. “I’ve seen this sign on the floor, and cars have been blocking it so people driving around, they won’t be able to see it,” said Contreras.
Some resident’s say these violent actions already taking place forewarns them of how it could be if alcohol is allowed. “It’s just going to increase the violence more in this town,” said Loving
However others say the new law could help out the economy. “They might as well keep the money in Andrews because it’s here anyways, so why not take the tax money,” said one Andrews resident.
