Two teenagers simply walked into a home that the owner had accidentally left unlocked and took several valuables but, the homeowner caught them in the act and they made a run for it.
When 21-year-old Felipe Hernandez came home after dropping his little brother off at school everything seemed normal. No other cars were parked in the driveway but when he came inside, he was shocked at what he found.
"He peeked his head out through that door and just stood there and then we both stopped for a second and then that's when he took off," says Hernandez.
But Hernandez acted quickly and called 9-1-1 as he followed the stranger down the street.
Once the kid took off into the brush, Hernandez gave up. When he got back to the house, he found that his X-Box and laptop were missing among other valuables.
"If I didn't come home at that moment, if I had stopped to get a burrito or something, if I was a minute later…they probably would have gotten away scot-free," he says.
But unlucky for the thieves, law enforcement tracked them down via helicopter and Hernandez will get all of his valuables back but, it comes with a lesson.
"Things have changed and we got to be a little more safe out here," he says
Hernandez's story has come as a reminder that it’s better to be safe than sorry.
