- The Buffalo Sabres still own the NHL's worst record and are one of just two clubs without a victory. On Monday, it was a former teammate who sent the Sabres to a 2-1 loss to Minnesota.
Jason Pominville snapped a 1-1 tie by scoring a power-play goal with just two seconds left in the second period. It was Pominville's first game in Buffalo since the Sabres traded him to the Wild midway through last season.
Kyle Brodziak (BRAHD'-zihk) also scored and Josh Harding turned back 22 shots as the Wild improved to 3-1-2.
The Sabres have scored just seen goals while opening the season 0-6-1.

- Stephen Weiss and Daniel Cleary scored second-period goals to give the Red Wings a 3-1 lead in a 3-2 win over the Bruins. Jonas Gustavsson made 28 saves in his first action of the season to help the Red Wings win their second straight and improve to 4-2.
- Alex Ovechkin notched a goal and an assist while the Washington Capitals were scoring three times in the second period of a 4-2 win against Edmonton. Joel Ward and Troy Brouwer (BROW'-ur) each had power-play goals as the Caps ended a three-game losing streak and picked up their first regulation victory of the season.
