Kermit, TX - Fifth Grader Karissa Espino is one of the hundreds of elementary students who get on the bus each day.
I just like riding it with my friends, she said, My mom and dad are still at work.
Out of 759 students at Kermit elementary, 73 percent of them ride the bus.
Principal Roxane Greer says this could be one reason attendance is up.
It does help with attendance if the kids can get on the bus then they'll be at school, she said.
I get them where they're supposed to be, that's what it's all about getting the kids to where they need to be, said bus driver Dan Price who explained the route he was taking in particular has 16 more students than it did last year.
He says more parents are working in this booming economy making it difficult to taxi their children to and from school.
A lot of parents work in the area and everybody who works in the area has weird shifts, he said, "With more kids it's a challenge getting everybody home on time."
But at the end of the day he says its a ride worth taking.
"I enjoy being part of their lives, he said, I'm part of building their future.
