Syria has been at war for about two years now and Mid Cities Church has decided it's time to send a group of missionaries and medical professionals to a safe haven in Jordan.
Today Mid Cities held a fundraiser to send help to this war-stricken area.
A brisket sandwich after Sunday school...and it's not just to feed hungry church-goers, all proceeds will go toward helping Syrian refugees.
Johnny's barbeque donated 400 sandwiches to Mid Cities Church for the cause.
"With everything going on in Syria, they're escaping and going to Jordan to these little tent cities and camps that we're going to have special access to in order to help in any way we can," says group member Jessica Perez.
Preaching the gospel is not their only mission.
"Our focus is not the religion, it is what we can offer to the people of Syria and to the refugees that have nothing," says Perez.
Money from today's event will cover travel expenses for the group, but more importantly it will also go toward medical supplies
"A lot of them need medical attention. It could be basic vitamins and cold medicine," says Perez, "If we can help one person endure a winter with a heater, a small space heater, something we take for granted being indoors, then my satisfaction is there in that."
They will be accepting donations up until they leave on October 6th. To donate, visit Midcities.org.
