According to MISD Director of Human Resources Ed Zachary, the district is pleased to say that the school year is off to a strong and smooth start.
Human Resources staff worked all summer long to reach their goal of hiring 400 new teachers. Today, Zachary says they are only 11 teachers short of that goal. There are still five vacancies in elementary schools and six in secondary schools.
Zachary say a "herculean effort" was made by all parties involved including the Scharbauer Foundation and Midland Memorial Hospital.
Teachers have undergone two weeks of training and staff development to ensure everyone was ready for the beginning of a new school year. Zachary says the principals of each campus have done a tremendous job preparing the faculty.
MISD will continue to search for and hire those last 11 positions. According to Zachary, during the first week of school the district will be monitoring and balancing the class sizes to make sure the optimal student to teacher ratio is met.
