Highway 87 Bridge in Big Spring To Be Repaired 8/20/13
August 20th, 2013
Cars and large trucks zoom by on the bridge daily. This traffic has caused damage to the road but the damage doesn’t stop with the roads as the sidewalk is crumbling in many areas.
Kevin Baucham walks on the bridge to get to work and says it’s in much need of repairs.
“It’s still safe to walk on, but it would be safer if they would fix it,” he said.
Last week TXDOT, city officials, and residents met to discuss problems with the bridge. City Manager Todd Darden says the both groups agreed to do their part.
“Big Spring offered to assist TXDOT where we could, with labor force, with cleaning of debris,” he said.
Councilman Marcus Fernandez, whose district is on the north side of the bridge, says he’s concerned about it’s condition. They are considering using inmate crews to clean up the mess.
“We use them to clean parks and that kind of stuff. And if not, we the city will provide a crew to clean and maintain it,” he said.
