The Streets of Kermit Just Got A Little Cleaner Today 8/5/13
CBS 7 News
KERMIT-Kermit's new City Mayor, Ken Mays, said that he wants to see his citizens take more pride in their town and that today’s Front Curb Pickup program was definitely needed.
In an effort to help clean the alleys and streets of Kermit, mattresses, sinks, tires and tree limbs were just a few of the items that were picked up today.
Mays said he took the position because he wants his hometown to be like it was 30 years ago.
"We just want to clean it up to where it would be a really good place to live. We have lots of good people coming in with all these companies and we know they're here for a job, but we want to make Kermit their home," said Mays.
Mays said he's received many phone calls from citizens who aren't too happy with all the quick changes, but he's asking residents to please work with them and give them a chance to make these necessary changes.
Mays went on to say that he and City Manager Pete Kampfer are here to serve the people of Kermit.
"Anybody that can't get this done they need to call our office and we'll send a truck to pick up anything they have from grass cutting to little things they just can't handle," said Mays.
The City Council said this program will keep their allies and streets clean.
This Front Curb Pickup Program wasn't just a onetime deal. The city mayor and city manager both said that they're going to have this program twice a month.
