Rock The Desert: Not Your Ordinary Christian Concert 8/2/13
August 2, 2013
Midland - Rock The Desert Continued Friday night bringing in thousands of people from all across Texas. Thursday night’s lineup consisted of Heavy Metal bands and Friday’s consisted of mostly rap and R&B. Rock The Desert officials say there are many genres of music that comes through the festival.
“Whatever genre is your style of music, chances are you’re going to find it with a Christian flare to it,” said KLOVE Promotions Manager Raul Flores.
At Rock The Desert you find a mixture of what most people think falls within the realm of Christian music, from contemporary all the way to heavy metal.
“We saw a lot of people coming to hear that aren’t like you said, traditionally growing up in the church or in some sort of faith based foundation. But they like the music, the more they get into that music, the more they start hearing the message,” said Flores.
Flores says it’s all about music ministry at Rock The Desert, and as Christians they want to reach outside of the church walls and touch all demographics through all different kinds of music.
“I have to speak to you in your language, and if your language is heavy metal rock, then I’m going to feed you my message with heavy metal rock,” said Flores.
