KERMIT-Three abandoned houses stand on the 300 block of South Avenue C. Neighbors say they are tired of living next to these houses and want them to get cleaned up.
Resident Robert Davis said the house on his street has been abandoned for over six years.
"I've seen people break into the house across the street, sometimes the door is wide open."
City Manager Pete Kampfer says he's working on a plan to get rid of these abandoned houses as part of his campaign, to reclaim Kermit.
Velia Lopez, is originally from Kermit and says that she would love to see her hometown finally cleaned up.
"There's a lot of abandoned houses everywhere here in this town that can just use some cleaning up and flipping. They would be good to rent out," said Lopez.
One abandoned home is nearly in Doug Bisnette's backyard.
"I don't like looking at it…I don't like looking in my backyard," said Bisnette.
Bisnette said that some of the residence in the community are actually coming together and starting to flip some of these abandoned homes.
