Off a dusty road on 1788 between midland and Odessa, Rock The Desert has done just that with Christian bands and family fun.
“It’s family friendly, Kids can come, hear good music and the gospel message of Jesus Christ,” said Co-Chair of the Rock The Desert Ministries Board Marcy Tull.
The $25 event is expected to be larger than ever, with Grammy-nominated bands, a new skateboard pipe and a $1,000 prize skateboarding contest...
"Our headliners this year are Third Day, Fly Leaf, LeCrea and other great artists,” Tull said.
Three weeks out and ticket sales are already up 30 percent.
“We’re expecting 18 to 19 thousand people this year,” Tull said.
Last year's event saw a dip in attendance, one reason was scorching heat, another was lack of hotel space for groups. Organizers say this year they're prepared.
“Groups can get on our website and look at our hotels that have blocks reserved for the events and there are even some discounts,” Tull said.
Today the ministry put the finishing touches on a new, permanent $380,000 stage that can be used for other events in the future.
"The community will be able to use the stage like if the symphony wanted to rent it for an outdoor concert, it's going to be big enough for a large symphony,” Tull said.
The stage was funded completely by private donors who wish to be anonymous.
You can purchase tickets for the event at 7-11's across the area or on their website at this link.
