One Dead in High-Speed Accident on FM 1788 6/25/13

A Midland woman was killed and another driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries after an accident Tuesday afternoon on FM 1788.
Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to the accident at approximately 2:23 p.m. in the 1100 block of FM 1788.
Shauntay Rose, 22, of Midland, was traveling in the left northbound lane of FM 1788 in a 2003 Silver Buick LeSabre when an 18-wheeler truck in front of her began to slow down in anticipation of a left turn into a business parking lot. Rose attempted to pass the 18-wheeler by turning into the right lane, found that it was occupied, then attempted to go around the truck’s left side by turning into a southbound lane with oncoming traffic.
The Buick collided with a southbound 18-wheeler, and Rose, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler involved in the accident was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Rose’s next of kin have been notified.
Drivers are advised to avoid a closed section of FM 1788 between Loop 40 and Highway 191 on their commute home this evening as cleanup efforts continue.

City of Midland Public Information Officer Sara Higgins has confirmed that one person is dead after a high-speed accident on FM 1788. No identities or causes are known at this time and authorities continue to investigate
MIDLAND - Authorities are on the scene of what scanner traffic tells us may be a high-speed fatal accident near 1100 S. FM 1788. Police will be closing FM 1788 from TX-191 to Loop 40.
