Monahans – Helicopters will be hovering around Monahans the next few weeks, and the reason may surprise you.
The Ward Co. Judge says Homeland Security will have helicopters in the area to check air quality.
You may notice the helicopters hovering over pipelines, oil and gas production facilities and other industrial facilities.
The helicopter is equipped with a special camera that can pick up hydrocarbon emissions. If the camera detects these emissions, it will hover over the area to gather images and data.
Because a hovering red helicopter is not a common site in west Texas, Ward Co. wanted to alert residents beforehand.
The helicopter flights are expected to end by Aug. 16th.
