ECTOR COUNTY-The ECISD Board of Trustees Meeting just finished. It was the first meeting for four of the new trustees and the first meeting since controversial photos surfaced of Board Member Luis Galvan.
He told the Odessa American after the photos surfaced that he admitted to using marijuana in the past.
One parent spoke out at the meeting, calling for Galvan to resign. His comments were quickly silenced by the board, who said he could not continue the discussion since it was not an item on the agenda.
“Mr. Galvan needs to step away from his seat so someone can step forward that will be respectable and will represent our parents and our students,” said Jeff Russell, who has two kids in MISD. He also spoke up at tonight’s board meeting.
When asked to respond to the request to step down after the meeting, Galvan referred all public comments to a written statement, which he gave to reporters.
“I am extremely proud of the great progress going on within our district,” Galvan said. “I sincerely apologize for any inappropriate comments made during a distressed situation. I maintain that I am fully committed to helping move our district forward to create better educational opportunities and outcomes for our kids in ECISD.”
Galvan did not directly respond to the question of whether he would place the concerns on the agenda at a later time.
