Odessa – Fourth of July in Odessa will have a different look this year. Main Street Odessa announced there will not be a Firecracker Fandango this year due to a lack of funds.
They say the reason is they had few volunteers and the unexpected resignation of the executive director in January.
Instead of Firecracker Fandango, an annual event featuring fireworks, several bands and vendors, will be replaced with Fireworks Spectacular, a free fireworks show.
Last year Main Street Odessa spent about $175,000 on Firecracker Fandango, with about $8,000 of that on fireworks.
They will spend a maximum of $17,500 on Fireworks Spectacular, with about $10,000 on fireworks, according to the Odessa American.
Organizers told our news partners at the OA, this year’s fireworks show will be “bigger and better” than last year.
