Woman Killed in I-20 Wreck Has Been Identified 5/10/13
UPDATE: 6:08 P.M.
A Midland woman was killed and two others were transported to the hospital after an accident Friday morning on Interstate 20.
Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to an accident with injuries at approximately 9:47 a.m. Friday on Interstate 20 near Rankin Highway.
Midland Police say traffic had been slowed in the area as a result of two minor accidents located east of the collision.
The driver of an 18-wheeler failed to stop before rear-ending a Ford Expedition, causing it to rollover.
The semi then hit a Pontiac Grand Prix in front of the SUV on the driverís side. Greta Caldwell, 33, of Midland was driving the Pontiac and was declared dead on scene.
The only other occupant of the Pontiac was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital.
One of the two occupants of the SUV was also transported, and the driver of the 18-wheeler was not transported.
The two transported individuals were treated and released Friday afternoon.
The investigation into the crash continues and no charges have been filed at this time.
UPDATE: 12:50 P.M.
TXDot Public Information Officer Gene Powell says traffic is backed up for miles on I-20 eastbound at the Rankin Hwy. overpass due to this morning's tragic accident.
He urges anyone traveling eastbound on I-20 toward Rankin Hwy. to exit using Loop 250 to avoid a delay that could be several hours.
UPDATE: 11:09 A.M.
City of Midland Public Information Officer Sara Higgins tells us that one person has been confirmed dead on the scene and two people were transported to Midland Memorial with unknown injuries.
The accident involved an 18-wheeler hauling pipe, an SUV which was rolled over and a sedan which was T-boned by the 18-wheeler.
The accident was started when an 18-wheeler failed to reduce speed after traffic was stopped, hitting and rolling over an SUV and T-boning a red car, killing its driver
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.

Tx-Dot has just released this statement, there is a crash on Interstate 20 on top of the State Highway 349 overpass involving an 18-wheeler and two cars.
Eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 are shut down and will remain closed until late
MIDLAND - Authorities are on the scene where a major accident including several vehicles has been reported on the I-20 overpass at Rankin Hwy. in Midland.
Unconfirmed reports say that one person may have been killed at the scene and several injured.
The eastbound lanes of I-20 have been closed and traffic is being re-routed to the north service road.
Several ambulances have been sent to the crash and CBS7 has a team on the way to the scene. Stay tuned for further developments...
