ODESSA-The Fiesta West Texas is heating up. And as party goers drink up, organizers are hoping a new program keeps drunk drivers off the streets.
Standard Sales Company is serving up alcohol at the fiesta--but they are also stepping up to keep DWI’s down with their Safe Ride Home Program.
"We've partnered with EZ Rider to provide a safe ride home,” said Retha Fortenberry, director of Corporate Social Responsibility for Standard Sales Company. “If you found a ride to fiesta and you called ahead, you can schedule your safe ride home."
DWI’s are always a big problem following events where alcohol are served.
"A lot of people think that they can drive after one beer, but that's just not correct,” said fiesta attendee Margie Gibson.
The Safe Ride Home Program lets people over 21 reserve spots in advance--and they will also have a waiting area after the event to bring anyone who needs a ride home...
The response so far has been great.
"I think it's a very good idea because you don't need people who've been drinking out and about on the town,” said Diederich Dutchover, also attending the fiesta.
Standard Sales says it hopes to offer the program at the event again next year as well as at other events they sponsor.
