3 Car Crash Closes 1788 4/24/13

The City of Midland issued this press release regarding this morning's accidents at 191 and 1788:
One person was transported to the hospital after an accident Wednesday morning on FM 1788.
Midland Police and Fire Departments responded at approximately 7:16 a.m. to an accident involving four vehicles just south of the intersection of FM 1788 and Highway 191. The driver of a Ford Mustang was traveling northbound and stopped to make a left turn when a dump truck driver also headed northbound failed to stop in time and attempted to swerve into the outside lane. The dump truck rear-ended the Mustang, pushing it into oncoming traffic in southbound lanes, and also sideswiped an 18-wheeler traveling north. A southbound flatbed gang truck collided with the front end of the Mustang after it had been pushed into oncoming traffic, and the gang truck slid through oncoming traffic without any other collisions.
The driver of the Mustang was sent to Midland Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported in the accident, and the driver of the dump truck received a citation for following too close.
Southbound lanes of FM 1788 have reopened, and northbound lanes are still closed to traffic.
Department of Public Safety troopers also responded to the accident.
