Big Lake - Lost parent-teacher notes, report cards and field trip notices for one school district is now a thing of the past.
There is now an app for anything and everything Reagan County ISD.
Reagan County ISD is actually one of the first school districts in the state to have a smart phone app.
Parents and school administrators we spoke with say it closes the gap in communication between school and home.
In a town with little phone reception, parents and students are staying up to date with Reagan County ISD through a new smart phone app. They're one of the first to have one.
"Everyone seems to have a smart phone these days. This is just another avenue for us to push information out to them," Tracey McPhaul, Technology Director for Reagan Co. ISD said. "Parents are just all about getting easy access as quick as they can to what's happening in our school district."
The new phone app has been a big hit with parents like Rosa Marquez. She says before she had the smart phone app, she wouldn't find out about testing dates until the last minute. But now, it's all in the palm of her hand.
"It showed me exactly what days he was going to be testing. Before, sometimes he wouldn't remember," Marquez said.
Students say they like being able to see when an assignment is due or when the next home game is.
"It's pretty good to keep up with stuff and be involved with what's going on," Erica Portalles, a senior at Reagan Co. High School said.
Reagan County ISD may be the first with the app, but they won't be the last. Other area school districts are in the process of developing their own.
Parents can also check their child's grades through the app, as well as receive safety alerts.
To download the free app, go to your app store and search iSchoolBox. Once the app is downloaded, type Reagan ISD into the search bar. From there, you can select each school within the district.
