MIDLAND-The City of Midland is thinking big picture when it comes to water conservation.

A city committee is hard at work finding ways to help citizens save water in the future.
In addition to basic things like education and awareness, the city is considering ordinances integrating new technology to save water.

It’s still in the early stages, but some city council members are concerned that even if usage drops significantly, the city will still need to meet water budget numbers.

“We have to balance out what we're getting with CRMWD, they raise our rates as well,” said Holly McGrath-Rosas, Assistant Utilities Director-City of Midland.

While nothing is set in stone, utility managers say a raise in rates could be on the horizon if usage drops significantly after conservation efforts.

The committee on the city's water conservation plans presents monthly to the council.
