MIDLAND - Liberty Tax Service is celebrating their 9th year as a Four Star Sponsor with Cellphones For Soldiers. The organization allows U.S. Soldiers to stay in touch with their loved ones at home.
Each phone is worth approximately 71 free calling minutes for our soldiers overseas. According to organizers, used cellphones donated in the Midland area have accounted for more than 250,000 free calling minutes.
Cellphones For Soldiers was founded by a group of teenagers who decided to help out after hearing a news story about a soldier in Iraq with a staggering phone bill.
“We’ve been collecting cellpgones for soldiers since 2004. It also keeps the cellphones out of our landfills,” says Event Cordinator, John Wojtkun.
If you missed the cellphone drive you can drop them off at any Midland Liberty Tax Service Office, at the North Midland Walmart or at Super Mercado.
