Drillers Dominate Scorpions 2/18/13
MIDLAND, TX
The West Texas Drillers put on a dominating performance against the West Texas Scorpions on the way to a 35 -0 victory in a pre-season game at Grande Communications Stadium on Saturday night.
The Drillers offense scored touchdowns on 5 out of 7 drives against a Scorpions defense that had only given up 6 points in each of its first two games.
Quarterback Chris Ware lead the way for the Drillers offense throwing for 184 yards and 4 touchdowns to 4 different receivers (Kenneth Duby, Jerry Don Zachery, Micah Burdett and Nick Tipton) while rushing for an additional 87 yards in only 3 quarters.
Drillers Running Back Joseph Clater would add a rushing touchdown with a 1 yard plunge into the end zone, part of the teams 156 yards rushing on the day.
The Drillers defense shut-out the Scorpions not even allowing them to enter the red zone once during the game. The Drillers next game will be Sunday, February 24 at the Texas Skyforce.
Then the team will return home to Grande Communications Stadium on Saturday, March 2 at 7 pm versus the Austin Tigers.
The March 2 game will be the Drillers annual game to help raise money for the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital as, thanks to Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, The West Company of Midland and Compass Pediatrics $3 from every ticket purchased to the game will go to help the kids at the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
An auction to raise money will also take place during halftime.
