I-20 Wildlife Preserve Grand Opening 1/19/13

Midland - The Interstate 20 Wildlife Preserve opened today in Midland thanks in part to a $1 million grant from the Parks and Wildlife Department.
The new facility boasts over 30 acres of marshland and about 90 acres of forest.
A handicap accessible trail system has been built giving visitors access to the bird blinds and the hawk tower.
The preserve offers a wide variety of natural activities for families to enjoy.
"Today is the first day we are open to the public. We will be open from 8 am until 6pm. We have just finished the trails system that is all handicap-accessible including the bird blinds and the hawk tower. So this is the first day that we are open to the public starting today,” Nathan Knowles, Executive Director of the I20 Wildlife Preserve.
Knowles tells us the project came about when board members looked at the property and decided to do with it what it is now.
There is no charge to come in. Those who will like to attend the doors are open from dusk till dawn.
