New Information On Bobcat Sightings 1/17/13

Odessa Animal Control
Press Release
January 17, 2013

(Odessa)- A bobcat has reportedly been sighted in the 3200 block of West 3rd Street.

This is the second sighting in about three weeks.

It appears that the bobcat may be stalking the prairie dog towns that border the extreme end of West 3rd Street and extends north to West 5th Street and west to West Loop 338.

There are acres of undeveloped land that could possibly harbor bobcats and coyotes hunting prairie dogs as a food source.

To mitigate the threat of wild predators entering populated areas, the prairie dogs will have to be moved or the predators will continue to visit the area.

A citizen who resides in the area was able to take a photo of the bobcat. The photo is grainy but gives you an idea of the size of the animal.

At this time, the animal appears to be in good condition and has not posed a threat or hazard to those living in the area.

Citizens are reminded to keep their pets secured and be mindful when they allow their children to roam and play.

Animal Control has placed traps in the area and citizens should avoid tampering with them.

In addition if citizens come in contact with any type of trapped animal, they should avoid tampering with it and contact the Odessa Animal Control immediately by calling 432-333-3641.
